The way this article (credited from ForbesAuto) rates safety is:

"Although the term *safest* might be open to a lot of interpretations, we mean it like this: Which cars are most likely, according to the crash tests and available facts and figures, to keep their occupants from injury or death in an accident? And furthermore, which vehicles best mix accident protection with accident avoidance?"

I am really really annoyed or amused that the cars on this list are for the most part larger and heavier vehicles. I am not surprised that statistically these cars so better because they can ROLL OVER the other cars... of course their drivers and passengers are safer. The ones that get hit by these cars lose the battle of the bumpers. Not to mention every care here, it is probably safe to say, is in the more expensive bracket of auto pricing (product of something connected to Forbes and big business maybe?)

Do you all remember the days when Sedans were top notch safety vehicles? Now they are caught under the treads of the Hummers (and I must say I am surprised that Hummer is not on the list considering the size... although seeing how this article uses statistics to make their point, I am sure the Hummer market is not large enough to impact their numbers in the way they calculated things...)

Ok, rant over. I'm pondering this... but this article sets of red flags all over...
