Laws of Nature....
Nov. 4th, 2006 01:47 pmSo over the past 48 hours I have had electricians in my basement fixing some wires that the electric company (ConEd) haphazardly left hanging from the ceiling in a very Cthulu like manner.
I have to be home for this because they need access to the basement which is thru my apartment. I was told that they'd be here Thursday and there would be interrupted electricity throughout the day.
9am - not here
10am - not here
12pm - not here
2pm - not here
2pm - Fine, if they are not here, I am running the dishwasher.
2:20 - they arrive, and I hope beyond hopes that it takes them long enough to set up that it can get thru the rinse cycle.
Success.
5pm - they are not done, and have to come back the next day. They say they are going to be there at 9am.

9am - not here. I think... I bet if I start ths dishwasher they'll arrive.
9:15 - start dishwasher
9:20 - they arrive (I stop dishwasher and drain it and happily discover that the detergent was still clipped in it's little holder so I could just hit Start at the end of the night)
11am - 2pm - lights go on and off, the TV remains on for most of it. At 2ish the whole building is out.
2-3pm - I try working on my GRE workbook using whatever light is coming thru my window. The shade sucks. Silence is good but I was getting restless and tired the harder it was for me to see.
3:15 - I decide to lie on the couch with my book pages facing the window hoping that it would help with the light issue, and if I fall asleep, the magic would happen and the men would call up to say the job is done.
3:16 - I get all comfy and my phone rings, for a wrong number mind you...
4:30 - Lights come on and wake me up. Not bad.
5:30 - The men are cleaned up and ready to go.
So today's lessons are summed up in the following:
If you want something to happen, do the MOST inconvenient thing possible for that situation.
examples:
Waiting for an important call? Go take a shower.
Waiting for electricians? Start the dishwasher, run your washer, take a shower.
Getting ready for some piece and quiet? Get comfy and your phone will ring.
Ah well. Cthulu is no longer in my basement, not that I spent much time down there anyway. And now I am off for the weekend.
